For over 40 years, along side his responsibilities as Professor of Biostatistics in the School of Public Health at the University of California, Berkeley, Steve Selvin has maintained a dedicated interest in photography. Whether in Berkeley, Oakland, Upstate New York, Baltimore, or traveling the California coastline, on extended stays in England, or travels in Europe, China and Japan, Professor Selvin has used his camera to capture detail and to document life around him.
Selvin’s interest in photography began at age 16 with a borrowed 35mm camera. On a hiking trip in the high Sierras he discovered the magic of light and the importance of standing on the right spot at the right time. His images are included in various publications including a 1989 cover photo for Ceramics Monthly and documentary photographs on assignment for articles in American Craft Magazine and Fine Homebuilding.
